About the Event

The Swiss Mobility Conference 2026 runs September 10-11, 2026 on the University of Lausanne campus. It's co-organized by the Laboratory of Urban Sociology (LASUR) at EPFL and the Institute of Geography and Sustainability at UNIL, and provides a space for discussion and debate among humanities and social science scholars working on mobility in Switzerland and beyond.

Audience & Attendees

The conference is aimed at researchers in the humanities and social sciences studying mobility. Two keynote speakers are confirmed: Jeff Kenworthy, Emeritus Professor in Sustainable Cities at Curtin University and at the Frankfurt University of Applied Science, and Peter Kummer, Professor of Practice in EPFL's School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering and a senior consultant at SBB.

Programme Structure

The call for abstracts opened February 2, 2026 with submissions due March 15, 2026, notifications by end of April, and registration opening in May. Sessions are conducted in both French and English.

Main Topics

Submitted presentations address mobility in its diversity, spanning theoretical debates on social theories of mobility, methodological innovations using mobile methods, public policy and regulation of mobility, the actors and logics behind mobility choices, norms and social inequalities tied to mobility, the rhythms and timescales of daily mobility and tourism, mobility infrastructure and accessibility, and socio-ecological transitions in future mobility.

Closing Session

The conference runs through its second day, September 11, 2026, at the University of Lausanne.
